Brig o Doon House Hotel Alloway, Ayrshire

After visiting 8 different wedding venues throughout Ayrshire, although they were all beautiful, I was disappointed that I hadn’t found ‘the one’.  A friend recommended that we try the Brig o Doon in Alloway.

With only 5 rooms the hotel was a lot smaller than I wanted, but we gave it a go. We dropped in on a Saturday afternoon without an appointment and from the start the staff could not have been more helpful. They showed us round the hotel, function room and gardens. As soon as I walked through the function room doors I was speechless and knew I had found ‘the one’.

We were assigned a wedding co-ordinator and she talked us through what was needed, emailing details of menus, prices, drinks package and local supplier options for flowers, cars, ministers, photographers, bands etc.  I was therefore able to get planning before our next meeting.

With a minimum guest number policy on a Friday and Saturday, we were restricted to a Sunday to Thursday wedding, choosing a Sunday meant we had to forfeit the church ceremony and have the service at the hotel.

All the way through the planning stages the service we received from the Brig o Doon was excellent, the wedding coordinator and other staff guided us the whole way through with recommendations to keep it traditional in a non pushy way and adapted to meet our needs, for example we cut short the speeches, cut the cake before our wedding breakfast and had rolls and sausage for our evening buffet!

Our wedding day arrived soon enough and again the staff did not disappoint, I didn’t have to look at the clock once, our toast master ensured all guests were in the right place at the right time. The day was wonderful and our guests were constantly commenting on how amazing the venue, food and staff were. It was the detail that really made for a great talking point, for example on the petit fours plates at the end of the meal the Chef had piped the bride and groom’s names along the top and the date along the bottom in chocolate, we were also given a pair of champagne flutes engraved with a picture of the Hotel and the famous bridge.

We had pre-ordered all the food, canapés and drinks which seemed to arrive at just the right times. The food was not fussy but elegant and extremely tasty!  Our wedding breakfast menu:

Salad of Parma Ham and Melon, with a red pepper vinaigrette, cherry tomatoes and toasted pine nuts

A light potato and leek soup

Pan Fried Chicken Breast, with a cheese and tarragon stuffing and peppercorn sauce

Tropical Fruit Meringue, with passion fruit coulis and vanilla ice cream

Freshly Ground Coffee with Petit Fours

The Brig o Doon truly exceeded our expectations and the whole experience was well worth the extra money we paid compared to a larger chain hotel. I would recommend them to anyone!
