Commis Chef

A Commis Chef is a junior role within a larger kitchen, that usually works under a Chef de Partie to learn about reponsibilities and the kitchens operation but no less important than the others as they are expected to work harder and for longer hours to establish themselves. 

A Commis Chef is normally working through there qualifications at college HNC and HND or day release from a government organisation to obtain their SVQ’s in basic food preparation.

A Commis Chef will be trained every day and will be given jobs from all sections in the kitchen to improve knowledge and skill base, including; checking away the daily orders and the quality of those orders to preparation of basic vegetables and recipes to assist the senior members of the kitchen team.

Once established within a brigade a Commis Chef will be given basic responsibilities including fridge temperatures checks for the kitchen and stock rotation.

A Commis Chef salary is circa £9,500 + per annum, depending on experience.
