Mise En Place - Delicatessen and Supplier of fine foods in Glasgow

Saturday morning in the south side of Glasgow I am in need of a fresh but light lunch to help with an over indulgence (alcohol) from the night before in the city centre.

When our small party arrived in the early sunshine the café was already busy with early morning patrons queuing for freshly baked bread croissants and pasta from the deli. The smell just enhanced my hunger for good food.

We were quickly offered seats in or outside the café, with the beautiful sunshine we opted for a corner table outside. It felt like the menu had been written for me with a host of my favourite ingredients spread across the page. With my appetite whet, I ordered a beer.  A bit early I confess but it was necessary as I intended to have Rare Beef and Horseradish salad that stood out like a beacon on the menu. We did have to wait a considerable amount of time for our food but we were looked after with drinks and some good chat from the waitress. The food, when it finally arrived, took away any gloomy feelings about the time we had spent waiting on it! It was simply plated food that looked both fresh and tasty. The quality of ingredients was obvious from the first to the last fork full of food. My beef was perfectly cooked and sliced wafer thin and set on top of home made Yorkshire pudding with a creamy but not too intrusive horseradish cream filling. I cannot stress enough how good it feels to have such a gem of an eatery finally in the Southside of the city.

To sum it up - this little café/deli provided the best food I have had for a long time in the city of Glasgow and I would highly recommend it to any one who enjoys simple clean food that lets the ingredients do the talking!
